Thomas Owens MD, Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner

Thomas D. Owens, M.D., is the director and chief forensic pathologist of the Mecklenburg County Examiner’s Office. He is responsible for supervising forensic examinations, autopsies, and death investigations in Mecklenburg County as well as overseeing the daily operations of the office. 

He joined the County in 2004 as a forensic pathologist. Thomas was promoted to chief pathologist and director in 2014. 

Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science in biology from UNC Charlotte and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine.
